What’s one of the worst things you can do when dealing with mold? Bleach it. That’s right, bleach is ineffective for killing mold. It superficially clears a surface, but the underlying mold is alive and well. Once the bleach breaks down, it actually becomes food for the mold! Ooops.
Mold in a home or business can be harmful to humans and not just for individuals who are allergic. Perhaps you’ve heard of a sick building. This situation typically arises from mold growing in a HVAC system. If the duct work isn’t properly sealed upon insulation, condensation can collect around vents and other connections, including the plenum to the air handler.
This means no matter how clean you keep the interior surfaces of the home, the air is carrying mold. This can occur in new construction too. The mold will grow in any building materials where moisture can gather, such as ducts, vents, wood, drywall, tile grout, etc.
People with certain allergies, respiratory conditions or immune suppression syndromes will be more likely to be adversely affected by mold and the risk of fungal infections, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.

What is the difference between mold and mildew?
Molds are fungi that grow in filaments and spread in spores. Mold spores enter the home through the air or on clothing, bags, etc. and grow in areas with moisture. Mold appears black, green or even red, while mildew is a superficial fungi that appears white. Mildew is easy to get rid of with regular household cleaners. Mold is more insidious and persistent. And regular cleaners are not going to take it out.
