What’s one of the worst things you can do when dealing with mold? Bleach it. That’s right, bleach is ineffective for killing mold. It superficially clears a surface, but the underlying mold is alive and well. Once the bleach breaks down, it actually becomes food for the mold! Ooops.
Mold in a home or business can be harmful to humans and not just for individuals who are allergic. Perhaps you’ve heard of a sick building. This situation typically arises from mold growing in a HVAC system. If the duct work isn’t properly sealed upon insulation, condensation can collect around vents and other connections, including the plenum to the air handler.
This means no matter how clean you keep the interior surfaces of the home, the air is carrying mold. This can occur in new construction too. The mold will grow in any building materials where moisture can gather, such as ducts, vents, wood, drywall, tile grout, etc.
People with certain allergies, respiratory conditions or immune suppression syndromes will be more likely to be adversely affected by mold and the risk of fungal infections, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.
Non-toxic Cleaning Solution
So, how do we tackle the mold? No bleach! Instead we apply an organic, biodegradable and environmentally safe solution. The proprietary, non-toxic cleaning product is proprietary and USDA approved. We bring peace of mind to the cleaning process. We seal off the mold affected areas and treat to contain and kill the mold. We remove the problem and leave nothing toxic behind. The surfaces are wiped, fogged and cleaned with a special vacuum. After the initial work, an additional three days of cleanup work follows.
All of our technicians are licensed for mold remediation. And that is key when it comes to flood mitigation. We don’t just dry out a flooded home. Yes, we do indeed dry it out with top of the line equipment, but we follow through with mold control. If you flood, try to get the space dried out within 48 hours. After that, mold growth is well under way. If you call us early enough, we may not need to tear out as much of the materials around the home.
What is the difference between mold and mildew?
Molds are fungi that grow in filaments and spread in spores. Mold spores enter the home through the air or on clothing, bags, etc. and grow in areas with moisture. Mold appears black, green or even red, while mildew is a superficial fungi that appears white. Mildew is easy to get rid of with regular household cleaners. Mold is more insidious and persistent. And regular cleaners are not going to take it out.
Do you need special training or licensing in the state of Texas to provide mold remediation services?
Yes, we are Mold Remediation Contractors and you can find us in a state database of licensed MRCs.
Can we stay in our home while you perform mold remediation?
Yes. We will seal off the affected areas and work under a negative air pressure so that we do not spread any of the mold contamination (spores) to other areas of your home. Once finished with the removal of the contaminated materials, we will thoroughly clean all surfaces and even the air to restore everything to a clean, healthy living space.
